Fayette Resources' Family Living through Lifesharing Program is an alternative way to provide community living for people with developmental disabilities. They live in a host family's home and are included as part of the family's normal, everyday life. Since its inception, the Lifesharing Program has offered long-lasting and meaningful commitments to the individual and families who choose to participate in the program. By sharing everyday events such as family dinners and milestones such as holiday celebrations, births, deaths, and graduations of family members, both the participating individual and his or her Lifesharing family develop long-lasting relationships which improve all participants' quality of life.
The Lifesharing provider may be married or single, with or without children. Fayette Resources welcomes inquiries from anyone who is willing to share his or her life and home with a person who has disabilities. Subsidized by county and state programs, the program gives families an opportunity to work in their own home and to be compensated accordingly.
Most individuals have a daily schedule of attending school or a day program which enhances their growth and skill development. Comprehensive training is provided to each family before an individual is placed into their home. This training, as well as ongoing annual training, enables the family to become familiar with Fayette Resources' policies and procedures, family dynamics, and sustained emphasis on everyday living skills. Fayette Resources' person-centered training also creates an ideal environment for the individual to make a smooth transition into the community.
